The Depo Provera Injection
The Depo Provera is a short-term contraceptive with the highest effective rate (if used as directed). It’s similar to progesterone which is one of the main two hormones made by a woman’s ovaries during a menstrual cycle and has a 99.7% effective rate if injected every 3 months. This injection can be purchased from any chemist or pharmacy, using a script provided by the doctor. The injection will then be administered by one of our nurses, during a consult with your doctor.
A common attraction of the Depo Provera is that it only requires one injection every three months, is economical and fertility can be restored shortly after the three-month period of coverage finishes. However, once the injection is inserted, it’s preventative against pregnancy for the following three months, therefore it’s important to think ahead before having the injection.
